How To Start Your Own Playing Cards Collection

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Individuals that decide to collect playing cards often times pick up this habit because of the history that surrounds these special cards. Most people in fact, treasure their collections to the same magnitude that famous art collectors do. These simple items have been around since the middle 1300s. After being introduced to the world in olden times, many individuals have been attracted by their craftsmanship and the art that is enthralled throughout the surface of the pieces.

There are a lot of people that own these types of items, however not all people that have a few of these items in their possession are avid collectors. The good news is if you decide to collect these products, it is not a difficult task to complete.

Now, before you can begin purchasing different types of items to add to your present collection it is important that you consider the types of cards that you want your collection to consist of. There are a lot of collectors that will choose to implement a theme with some of the items that they collect. Some common themes include items that are connected to a particular movie, television show, or items that show a particular picture on their external surface.

Even though most people tend to keep a theme going when they collect a particular item, you actually do not have to limit yourself to one specific theme if you do not want to. However, most people that collect certain items simply like to stick to a theme, because it challenges them to obtain every item that they can locate that fit’s the theme that they have set forth.

Most people believe that in order to collect a certain item or product that they have to invest all of their money into this one simple task. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to be a self proclaimed millionaire in order to have a product of large magnitude.

Your collection that you decide to invest your time and money into, can be anything in the world that appeals to you. Obviously, the first official rule of becoming a collector of some kind is to find something that you would not mind spending your time searching for. If you decide to start collecting items that you do not show any interest in, you will automatically cease your collection tasks and be left with items in your possession that you do not have any use for.

Most collectors begin collecting specific items because they hope that one day they will be able to sell off the items that they have in their possession in order to make a little bit of extra money. However, if you are going to start your collecting things for the sole purpose of selling off the items that you obtain later for a profit, it is important to be able to gauge the condition of the items that you possess.

The categories that your items are grouped into are based upon the actual condition of the item that you have. Typically, these cards are grouped into items that identify their face value. There are newer items that are known to be in mint condition, poor conditioned items, fair conditioned items, as well as good condition items. Determining the condition of the items that you collect will help you find out if your current collection is worth any money at all.

3 Short Handed Texas Hold Em Tips Revealing How To Play Perfectly

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

You can play short handed Texas Hold Em properly, or incorrectly, you choose. These tips will help you do it the right way. Read this article now to learn them.

It doesn’t matter if you have previously lost a lot of money playing short handed Texas Hold Em. Maybe you tried it and lost some cash, or you have gotten to the final table in a tournament but bummed out when the table started to get short. It’s ok, because now you can learn how to play short handed properly and never make those mistakes again.

How To Play Short Handed Texas Hold Em Properly Tip #1

The first most important thing to realize about short tables is you have to play a lot looser. Recently one of my newsletter readers asked me how he can win at short tables, as he only even seems to get moderately good cards and isn’t getting anything fantastic.

Well, that’s just it, you won’t get fantastic cards. You have to loosen up quite and bit and start making the most of anything you can.

How To Play Short Handed Texas Hold Em Properly Tip #2

The second thing is to realize that short play is massively effected by stack sizes. That’s why if you can get to the final table of a tournament with a big stack you can pretty much win – it’s how the last WSOP winner on. He doubled up a few times and was at the final table with a stack 5 times bigger than number 2.

Stack sizes, betting, bullying, pressuring, targeting; it’s all ruthless play at a short handed table. If you are short-stacked you don’t have much luck. Make sure you’re making the most of your chips.

How To Play Short Handed Texas Hold Em Properly Tip #3

The third this is psychology. Cards and stack size aside, psychology and psychological tactics are more important than any other time.

You can win hands with nothing just by being brazen. You can defend yourself no matter what if you dupe your opponent with mind tricks. Failing to realize the invisible play at a short table is a recipe for disaster.

One of the most established rewards program is Harrah’s total rewards. It covers all of the Harrah’s properties and has some great benefits. Texas Holdem Starting Hand Nicknames

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Holdem Poker has a rich tapestry of character. From old days on the Mississippi to modern day internet whiz kids, poker has been played all types of people in all manners of locations. Subsequently almost every hand in poker has a name and can tell you a story.

The most powerful hand before the flop in Texas Holdem Poker is two Aces. Subsequently they generate the most excitement and colourful names. The most common names for two Aces are Rockets, Pocket Rockets, and Bullets (for obvious reasons). They are named after several famous people and organisations with initials starting with the letter “A” including Alan Alda, Albert Anastasia, and American Airlines. They are also known as numerous pointy and sharp objects including Rocky Mountains, Sticks, Teepees and Two Pips. A few obscure references include Squirrel (the nuts) and Batteries (Double A). Individual names for a single Ace include Bull, Bullet, Death Card (spades), Mastercard, One Spot, Puppy Foot (clubs), Seed, Sharp Top, Spike and Tax Card (spades).

A King is also known as David (spades), Julius Caesar or One eyed king (diamonds), K-Boy, Monarch, Sergeant, Alexander (clubs), Charlemagne or Charles (hearts). Another fitting term for this hand is The Elvis Presley (The King of Rock n Roll).

Queens often have nasty nicknames, partly because of the number of times they are beaten by Aces and Kings, but also through reference to homosexuality. Some nicer terms include Lovely Ladies, Ladies, Calamity Jane (likely extensive of Cowboys for KK) and Snowshoes (resemblance to the original shape of snowshoes). Crude nicknames include Siegfried and Roy and B***hes.

Less known names include Rent boys, Kid Dyne-o-mite (TV show reference), Brothers, Jay Birds, John Juanda (Poker Player) and Colostomy Bag (as Jack is slang for toilet in some countries). Two Tens are commonly referred to as Two Dimes, TNT and Binary (In Binary 1010 is the equivalent of 10). Nines are known as Barbara Feldon (named after the actress from Get Smart- Agent 99), German Virgins (Nein, Nein), Phil Helmuth (Won WSOP in 1989), Popeye, Pot hooks and Wayne Gretzky. Two eights are Snowmen, Little Oldsmobile, Racetracks, Snowmen, Two Fat Ladies, Lacey, Pretzels, and Wurlitzer. A pair of Sevens are axes, mullets, hockey sticks or walking sticks. A pair of sixes is known as Boots, Cherries, or Kicks (On Route 66). Two Fives are known as Presto, Snakes or Speed Limit. Two Fours are Canadian Presto, Dark Force, Darth Vader, Magnum and Sail boats. Threes are known as either crabs (shaped like the number 3) or treys and a pair of Twos is Deuces, Ducks, or Quack Quack (reference to shaped like a duck).

Other hands with nicknames include the powerful Ace and King combination known as Big Slick. Other names include backronyms such as Korean Airlines and King Arthur, as well as the aptly named Anna Kournikova (looks good but seldom wins). Another common reference is Kalashnikov (who designed the AK47). Ace-Queen is known as Big Chick or Mrs Slick. Other notable hands include Jack-Four (Flat Tire) and J6 (Rail Road). A Ten and a Deuce is a famous hand known as the Doyle Brunson after he successful won two World Series of Poker bracelets.

There are thousands of hand nicknames and only a few of the commoner ones have been listed here. If you are interesting in other poker starting hand nicknames I recommend checking out Wikipedia for an extensive list of common names.

A Guide To Poker Tells: Reading The Competition

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

One of the most fascinating and critical parts of poker is the extraordinary ability of great players to be able to read a player and work out what cards they hold. Everybody has poker tells and the best players know that the more attention you pay, the more information you can gain about someone. Poker tells include everything that you do at the table from moving chips, speaking and even involuntary mannerisms.

The Eyes Reading a player starts with their eyes. Watch how they view the world and you will gain insight into their thoughts. An opponent who glances at their chips immediately after seeing the flop is thinking about betting and likely has a monster. Some players will stare at their hole cards longer than normal when they have a big hand. When the flop comes down and the player stares at the flop as if staring straight through it, they have often missed.

The Hole Cards Double checking the hole cards usually means a weak hand. People don’t often double check big pairs because they remember what it was the first time. Looking away and uninterested after seeing the hole cards is a dead give away for strength. Squeezing out the second hole card sometimes means the first card seen is an ace. Checking the hole cards on a flop that is all the same suited usually implies someone doesn’t have the flush.

Betting Patterns Strong means weak and weak means strong, when someone is bluffing, they feel the need to look strong. If you notice a player forcefully betting his chips, he is probably bluffing. If a player looks and then checks instantly, it’s unlikely that he improved his hand.” When a player at the table takes an unusual amount of time to act, this is generally an indication that he has a big hand. If a player looks at his hand then bets instantly, it is highly unlikely that he is bluffing. As said above, a forceful or exaggerated bet usually means weakness. So what do you think a soft and innocent looking bet means? It almost always indicated that the player has a strong hand.

Chip Stacks Studying how the chips are put out, the amount of bet, whether it is large chips or small chips can give clues to betting tells. Loose aggressive players usually have unorganised stacks while tight conservative players keep neat stacks. Some players keep two stacks in cash games, these type of players will stack their winnings off to the side or in front so they can easily tell how much they are up on the game. If you can determine this, they will be less likely to call a bet which would put them in the red for the game, unless they have a very strong hand. If you ever notice a player winning a large pot, and perhaps may still be stacking their chips from it, they will not play the hand unless they have good cards.

Voice Changes If a player is talking smoothly while in a hand, it means he is not overly concerned about the hand he is playing. This is because he feels comfortable and usually means a big hand. Any speech means strength. Any question directly at your or the dealer means strength e.g. Is it my turn to bet?. An opponent that is acting rude is trying to induce a spite call.

Every player gives off tells, try to remain patient and always watch the table even when you aren’t in a hand.

Craps Explained

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Sometimes known as the casino game with a funny name, the game of craps, does not in fact take its name from the expletives hurled out by losing players, but in fact from the French word “crapaud” meaning “toad”.

In casino craps, players play against a house, selecting 2 dice from a selection of dice offered by the stickman. Several rules apply when throwing the dice, for example they must hit the back wall, to avoid a “controlled shot”. Players bet on a playing surface and winnings are paid by the banker.

There are different ways of betting and playing such as playing the “pass line”, “don’t pass line” and other single bets on individual throws. On “pass line” bets, players bet on a winning throw. If a 7 or 11 is rolled then all bets on the pass line win. Players lose if a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled (these are called “craps”). However, “don’t pass line” reverse the fortunes of the 2 and 3 above, but a tie is called for a 12 on the “don’t pass line” – maintaining the house advantage.

Whenever a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is rolled by the thrower, the stickman places an “on” button on the corresponding number in the field. The player then has as many throws or he or she needs to roll that number again for everyone to win. However, if the player rolls a 7 before they re-roll the “on” number, all players lose.

There are many other possible bets to play, and since the take-off of online betting craps as well as many other games that were previously only available in the casino. The main appeal of craps (apart from winning all of the money obviously) is probably the fact that everyone on the table can win, leading to a great atmosphere. The fact however that it is played online, just proves its fun playability.

A Poker Decision: Which Game Should You Choose?

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Omaha is an interesting game and, as many attest, is quite profitable, but there is comparatively little material you could find to learn safely from, and Hold’em is in fact a good place to start for anyone. At the present time Hold’em ranks as the most popular game in casinos and online and has received much attention in media and literature (online and in book form).

Now that that’s over, the next step is some personal soul searching to determine your proclivity for risk..

If you are the one that goes sky-diving and opens your parachute at the last minute, you thrive on risk. If the mere thought of sky diving at all makes you quiver all over, you do not. If you fall into the first category of risk but cannot control your impulses, just watch other people play the game the game and stay out of it yourself. If you are unable to figure out the degree of risk you are comfortable with, there are tests available to help you determine this. For the risk takers, no-limit cash and tournament games are the best bets.

Next in your self-awareness exercise program is to determine if you are a mathematician or a behavioral psychologist. You calculators are meant for limit games. If you are able to discern the cards that your opponents have in their hands by reading various bodily signals, you are the one that should be in no-limit and multi table tournament (MTT) games.

No-limit and MTT games are both very good poker forms for you to develop your game if you are willing to put in the time to learn them well. Due to the rarity of the high-level limit games, you won’t find as much chance to develop your skills as you would in no-limit and MTT. The best place for future world poker champions to grow their game is in tournament play.

The least potential for players reach the heights of fame and fortune is in limit poker. The best games for would-be poker champs are tournament games and high profile no limit games.

Limit poker is far more prevalent and available online than in casinos or clubs. Tournament poker should gain the attention of all players in public establishments because it is the only form of the game officially designated as a sport.

If you consider poker as a profitable profession, you will systematically target games with a high percentage of weak players. Because of accessible literature, the amount of weak players is particularly low in limit Hold’em. Focus on no-limit and tournament poker, training yourself accordingly, whatever you feel your inclinations are initially. Limits higher than $1/$2 may already prove too large a piece of cake. In SnGs, the beginner may want to stay bellow $20+$2, in no-limit bellow NL$100. Below these levels, basic knowledge of poker principles are likely to suffice. Higher levels will demand intense efforts to study the game, and even the studious player is not guaranteed consistent wining.

The above suggestions are all well and good for first steps. With experience and continuing education, you will be able to answer many of your questions clearly on your own.

Which Of Your Poker Images Should You Hang On To?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

It may be entirely beyond the average poker player that at any moment of the game he or she projects a specific image. Players are either unaware of the fact that an image had better be consciously maintained or trying to avoid projecting any image by assuming a sort of somberly inexpressive expression. Shielded behind shades and baseball cap, unsmiling, moodily silent, they believe that they thus “minimize” communication with the rest of the table.

Yet they are not invisible and they will always project some kind of persona and divulge enough information for the good player to decipher and use. What they are really doing is attracting better players than themselves to the table and detracting the lamer players that they could actually win money from.

A blank face will not keep you from becoming observed. Actively engaging in controlled conversation with other players will bring better results than a stone face and silence. Actually the blank face probably denotes more weakness than strength.

The blank attitude is a retreat from any active involvement and retreat is always a sign of weakness. In addition, these blank types are not aware that their more highly skilled counterparts can inevitably read their tells at some point during a hand because old stone face is still a human being after all.

Amateurs will for the most part prefer tables where they can have a good time. The successful businessman and the brilliant engineer, cruising around the room, are looking for a table where players are relaxed and friendly. They will look and listen for good times before they at all try to appraise potential partners’ actual poker skills, and are most likely to opt for those tables where people seem to enjoy themselves most.

For a player intending to earn a regular income it is important to be able to cater to these basic desires of the fun-loving amateur. A constant stream of amateurs is the wise professional’s regular income. A happy amateur is likely to stay longer at your table, dare more, bet higher, and loose more, more willingly. But the amateur is likely to leave a table full of Egyptian mummies.

A good conversation and a sense of humor combined with a slightly flattering play which keeps the amateur trusting he has a chance will increase the chances of that player coming back for more next time, perhaps even specifically seeking out your table. Since they do not play for the money or the excitement of high stakes, they will not regret as much having lost to an entertaining player.

Keep your weaker opponents in a good mood and you will keep up their good hopes, believing that luck may still take their side. Good time and occasional “luck” may turn them into regular players and into regular income and attract still more amateurs. But a show of cold indifference will only make them disgusted with themselves or the table or both.

The best professionals are aware that they project an image and so are cautious as to what that image is at any given time. They have created an image to add to their interests, not to shun others. They have learned their superior technique through experience and have learned to manipulate the game to their advantage by creating a persona that establishes a positive environment in which everyone wants to join in including the heedless, fun-loving victim.

Loving Texas Hold ‘Em

Monday, April 5th, 2010

If you’ve been a little embarrassed to try Texas Hold ‘Em because it looks a little involved, fret not. In the piece we will cover enough of the basic rules to get you up and gunnin’ for the big dog in now time.

The first thing you need to know about are the blinds. This is the one part of Texas Hold ‘Em that most people forget about or just don’t understand. The blind is a predetermined amount of money and takes the place of the traditional ante in poker. They are defined as the big blind and the little blind. The little blind is to the immediate left of the dealer and pays half the agreed amount. The big blind is to the left of the little blind and pays the full amount agreed upon. As the deal rotates so does the blind. No one but the big and little blind pays to start. So if you’ve had a few bad hands, NOT being the blind is kind of helpful.

The game begins with each player getting two cards face down. Betting is the normal kind, but I like confusing people so we’re going to cover the average betting round now and get it out of the way. Players bet in turns, for the sake of explaining things let’s assume there are four players whose parent’s had no imagination and named the A, B, C and D. C is the small blind so he bets last. D sees he doesn’t have the greatest two cards to bet on and checks (passes on betting.) A likes his cards and bets $5. B now has to bet at least $5 and sees (matches) the $5. D sees as well. Now A, who checked earlier has to decide if he wants to stay in or fold. He decides to stay in and bets his $5… then because he’s a stud, bets $5 (raises.) B has to meet this or fold, as does C and D. They all have the option to raise. Things continue on like this until someone at the end of the betting train says WHOA! And calls.

After the second round of betting is complete, the dealer burns another card and deals just one more card face up in the center of the table. This is called the “turn” card. You are still taking the best three of the four to compliment your hole cards. After the card is turned up, another round of betting takes place.

Once more another card is burned and a final card is turned up. This is called the river card. Another round of betting takes place. When someone calls then the round of betting is over and the two down cards are shown by the remaining players.

Once the third round is over, if you’ve had the intestinal fortitude to stick it all out, it is time for the river card. The river is dealt just like the turn was; one card burnt and one face up. The final round of betting takes place then. Once this is done, it is time to see everyone’s cards. The winner takes the pot.

A suggestion is to ride things out at least through to the river card. Folding too early sometimes will make you feel like kicking yourself when the 2, 6 in your hand could have been a small straight. Unless betting is heavy, you might as well stay in. Another suggestion is for when you have Texas Hold ‘Em night at your place. Your guests would no doubt appreciate a second table so they can continue gambling while they are waiting for everyone else to finish up. Often things can get pretty rowdy at table 2, but it sure beats people poking through your closets for some unknown reason- it’s happened to me once.

Texas Hold “em is definitely a game of strategy and not for those in the game for one or two hands. Now that you know the basic rules you will have a starting point for reading some strategy guides or to start working on your own strategy. Good luck!

Many Poker Players Prefer Online

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

One of the statistical studies shows a recent rise in the number of people preferring to play poker on the net. An increase in the number of players opting for this game can also be guessed with the addiction potential that the game of poker holds. However, there are a number of other reasons too that are responsible for the rise in the number of players playing this game such the entertainment potential that the game of poker holds.

Players usually prefer playing their game of poker on an online casino. Players can play for fun on the online casino, or play for money. Players who play for money find the game more thrilling than the ones playing to just for fun. Players who play the game of poker for fun can take the vantage of honing their skills before they start off to play seriously with money.

Only when you get down to play the game, you realize that these online casinos offer a number of poker games. This lets you to choose a game which matches your criteria or skills. Since these online casinos belong to the virtual world, a number of tables are available to you where betting per hand is done for different rates. So you have the flexibility of choosing the table of your choice too. You can also go on to share the table with professional poker players and play for high stakes as there is no one stopping you. This may not be possible in a land based casino where treatments differ for different players.

There are many variants of original casino games that can be accessed on these casino sites by the players once they get registered on them. After getting registered you can avail the benefit of free choice offered by the site to all its players of choosing and playing any casino game on their site. However, it observed that most of the players still opt for a game of poker in most of the cases. Such free to choose offers are only available on casino sites and not on land casinos. Also, a major difference between land and virtual casinos is that you are free to choose your table and the number of players who would like to play with on your choice of table. No wonder why more and more people are now-a-days preferring to play more on online casino sites instead of land casinos.

Most of the players who start playing casino games on net start preferring this route of playing their casino games to other routes. Online casinos are equally safe and secure to place bets like the land casinos. People can play casino games on online casino sites either as single players or by forming a group of multiple players. It is up to the player’s preference to play any game in groups or alone. Bets can be placed in all the games in a safe manner on these sites.

This proves that not everyone who plays poker is gamblers and there are many who enjoy the game without any monetary benefits. Some play online poker socially with their relatives and friends enjoying their weekends. Online poker casinos are the best places to play the game irrespective of what reason you are playing it for. This clearly explains the reason for a great number of people playing poker online.
